Buying gear in Path of Exile 2 starts with a search. Since patch 0.5 there’s an in-game market panel that mirrors the trade site’s search, so you can browse listings without leaving the game. Filter by the stats you care about, sort by price, and check a few similar listings rather than just the cheapest one.
Listings come in two kinds, and the difference matters. Listings sold through a seller’s hideout shop show a Secure Item button: click it, get taken to their shop, and buy the piece on the spot. The seller doesn’t need to be online, nothing can be sniped out from under you mid-conversation, and there’s no way to get scammed. The other kind is the classic whisper listing — you message the seller and meet up. It still works, it’s just slower and depends on a human answering. When you see Secure Item, take it.
Every purchase carries a small gold fee. That’s deliberate — gold can’t be traded between players, so the fee quietly taxes bots and high-volume flippers without costing a normal player anything that matters.

Not for Secure Item listings — those work while the seller is offline. Whisper listings need both of you present.
Does trading work across platforms?
Yes. PoE2 trading is fully cross-platform — PC, PS5, and Xbox players all trade with each other. I buy things on PS5 that were listed by PC players all the time.
Is there a fee?
A small gold fee per purchase. Gold is the untradeable vendor currency, so think of it as a tax the game pays itself.
