Use the built-in price check on any drop — new in patch 0.5 — then sanity-check anything expensive against comparable market listings before you sell.
“Is this worth anything?” used to be the most anxiety-inducing question in the game, answerable only by alt-tabbing to a website. Patch 0.5 built the answer in: a one-click price check on any item that tells you roughly what it would fetch.
Trust the price check for triage — the difference between vendor trash and real money. For anything it values highly, slow down and browse a few comparable listings on the market before listing yours. Compare against several similar items, not just the single cheapest one; lowball listings exist to catch the impatient.
A note on small flips: every listing and purchase has a gold fee attached, which means high-volume penny flipping is intentionally unprofitable. Pricing your actual finds well beats playing day trader with your evening. If you came here to flip, you’re on the wrong website — we’re the people the flippers flip to.
Once you know what it’s worth, list it. If it’s stackable currency rather than gear, skip the market entirely and use the exchange.
FAQ
Where is the price check?
Built into the game since 0.5 — check any item from your inventory. (Exact button varies by platform; this page gets my controller-by-controller notes shortly.)
Should I always trust it?
For cheap items, yes. For expensive ones, treat it as a starting point and browse comparable listings.
What should I never vendor?
Read the vendor trash glossary entry — short version: when in doubt, price check first.
